Job description: Scientist Single Domain Antibody Engineering
Type: 60% – 100%
Location: Innolab Agrifood, Zernike University Campus Groningen, The Netherlands
Date: Immediate

About the role

At Cortalix, the Single Domain Antibody Engineering scientist is actively involved in projects focusing on the recombinant production of single domain antibodies in microbial hosts. You will construct genetically modified bacterial or yeast strains and set up production and purification methods of single-domain antibodies. In addition, you will contribute to the generation of synthetic libraries of single-domain antibodies and perform screening by using the phage display technology. Demonstrable practical experience with optimization of development processes (including affinity maturation, humanization, strain development) and conjugating functional chemical groups to antibodies is appreciated.
You have affinity with research into molecular targets in diseases and pharmaceutical solutions in that area. You understand preclinical and clinical science and contribute to translational work across research, development and services for Cortalix’s business relationships. You maintain and share your knowledge in this area to keep Cortalix fully informed of the latest news and developments in the industry.
You will contribute to preclinical proof-of-concept work and single domain antibody services for clients. You carry out laboratory work yourself and together with colleagues and interns. You regularly report on the progress of your experimental work.

    What we expect

    • You preferably have a PhD in molecular genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, life sciences or equivalent.
    • You have detailed knowledge and skills in the field of genetic engineering concepts and molecular biology techniques.
    • You have detailed knowledge and relevant skills in the field of antibodies.
    • You have demonstrated experience in performing expression of recombinant proteins, preferably single-domain antibodies, in bacteria and/or yeast, phage display panning and selection, and downstream processing of produced single-domain antibodies (e.g. purification and bioanalysis).
    • You are a results-oriented team player, with a proactive, hands-on and solution-oriented attitude.
    • You have good data reporting and presentation skills (internal/external).
    • You have the ability to work successfully in a small organization.
