Cortalix is pleased to announce its participation in a new EFRO-funded research collaboration with Portal Biotech, GECCO Biotech, and the University of Groningen (RUG). The project aims to develop a portable diagnostic platform based on innovative nanopore technology, capable of rapid, point-of-care detection of disease-relevant biomolecules.

Portal Biotech leads the development of the nanopore sensing device, designed to provide real-time, label-free molecular detection in a compact format. As part of the consortium, Cortalix will develop a synthetic VHH nanobody library specifically tailored for use in nanopore-based assays. These nanobodies will serve as highly specific recognition elements, enabling the detection of a broad range of targets with high sensitivity and selectivity.

Nanobodies, due to their small size, robustness, and high-affinity binding, are ideally suited for integration into miniaturized diagnostic systems. The custom-designed library from Cortalix will play a central role in validating and benchmarking Portal’s technology.

GECCO contributes to the project by supporting the microbial production and scale-up of biological components. The RUG brings complementary academic expertise in molecular recognition and nanopore analytics, strengthening the scientific foundation of the platform.

This collaboration showcases the power of regional innovation ecosystems, combining biotech, nanotechnology, and applied academic research to accelerate the development of next-generation diagnostics.
